I also realised the skirt didn't match up at the back this could have been to do with the fact i didn't use a pattern to create the skirt, so the lengths on each side could have been slightly different, it also could be down to when i was sewing the garment the fabric was difficult to manoeuvre.

The zip again was difficult to do because of the fabric because it didn't turn over to conceal the stitching, i learnt from last week how to put a zip in better however with the fabric being clear it mean you could still see the top half and bottom half of the zip. I feel as though if i did it again, i wouldnt say it is the fabric to use for a zip but maybe using eyelets as they would sit in the fabric better.
One of the front darts, when back stitching to hold the stitches in place is visibly seen as the fabric is clear.
I wanted to create a simple dress because the fabric pvc fabric was very difficult to work with, i learnt from using a normal foot on the machine, it would catch as it was sticking to the fabric, i then realise i needed to to use the teflon foot, which meant it wouldn't stick.
I used the bodice block to create the top half because it was the first time i had made anything that i wanted to fit and i wanted it to be simple so that i could actually make it.
The hardest part was creating the skirt because i wanted it to contain pleats, the fabric was very thick to sew over so in parts it wasn't very straight. I wanted to make the top half slightly more fitted so i put darts into the bottom half, they weren't as difficult as i first presumed however with the fabric being see through, any mistakes made could be clearly seen.

Burberry used clear pvc capes at the a/w 11
For the second week we choose the fabric pvc, we used a clear pvc to create our dress. It was a difficult fabric to work with because it was very stiff and the fabric stuck together when pressure was applied.

Putting the zip in was a difficult part for me as i had never put on in before, this was an invisible zip, however mine was quite visible, i know understand that with the zipper foot you have to be really close up to the teeth of the zip for it to be sewn. Also at the bottom of the zip was on the outside instead of the inside, i hadn't stopped sewing when i should have done and then sewn the bottom of the zip into the the seams. A lesson learnt for next time.
I found it difficult to put in the waistband because of how thick the fabric was when it was gathered. It was difficult with the sewing machine also because it was so thick for the needle to go through, that in place it moved and didn't get all the gather inside the band.
This is the fabric we used, it was really good fabric for gathering as it created a really nice effect. It was a simple technique but it gave the skirt a bit of difference.

For each garment we have to use a different fabric, our first fabric we choose was a heavy cotton. The fabric was easy to use, however bits of fluff seemed to stick to it, but with a lint roller it was fine. The heavy fabric meant when gathered it created a defined effect.
For our first project we have to make 9 garments, consisting of 3 skirts, 3 dresses and 3 pairs of trousers. Our first item is a skirt. I wanted to make a simple design as this was the first time i have made a skirt and decided a gathered skirt like the picture above would be a nice start.
